Europe’s New Ford Mondeo
What is Ford doing so wrong in the USA? They cant seem to give there cars away where as in the UK and Europe there are thousands sold every day. Well its all down to the product. For example the Ford Taurus is appauling! Where as the new ford Mondeo in the UK is the drivers choice with more features and refinement than a Mercedes Benz and more driver appeal than a BMW. With a saving of thousands against the executive market consumers are fighting over the limited available stock of the new car. Although more are on the way, sales of the New Mondeo in September are expected to be around the one if 5 of all executive hatchbacks sold! That’s some serious competition for Vauxhall and BMW to be very worried about.
The problem is Ford have raised the benchmark for standard cars so high that the likes of BMW are struggling to think of extras that they can put in there cars to justify the massively over inflated price they are trying to sell them for.
Put simply the Ford Mondeo has to be driven to be believed, it is literally a glimpse of the future because I can almost guarantee the roads will be littered with these cars sooner than later. They are like the last new Mondeo quite literally Ground breaking.
Engines for the new Ford Mondeo range from a small, efficient 1.8-liter diesel to a five cylinder gas unit rated at 200 horsepower. All engines will be available with the choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The driving experience should be similar to that of the award-winning S-Max from which it borrows much of its architecture, but the Mondeo also benefits from a lower center of gravity. It’s painful seeing such appealing products coming from Ford overseas, when the company is facing such strife here at home. There is hope though–the Mondeo is one of a number of products that Ford is considering for future U.S. sale. It seems to be working for Saturn, and from the looks of the Mondeo, it could work for Ford, too.
