Kenworth introduces Driver Information Center for 2008 Class 8 models

Drivers can more closely monitor fuel economy, optimum engine speed and idling, plus access additional information on engine diagnostics with a new electronic center that Kenworth Truck Company introduced today at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

“The new Kenworth Driver Information Center is for customers who want to lower operating costs by improving fuel economy and driver productivity,” said Mike Dozier, Kenworth chief engineer. “The new information center gives drivers more data on vehicle performance than ever before. Drivers new to a particular drivetrain or to the profession will find the display especially useful in learning or developing optimal driving patterns.”

The Kenworth Driver Information Center, which is available as an option for Kenworth’s 2008 Class 8 models, integrates system information into one display located within the primary instrument cluster. The driver receives instant access to current trip data, including miles per gallon, engine and idle hours, idle percentage and optimum rpm range for the engine. The driver can use this information to help optimize fuel usage and reduce wear-and-tear on the engine and transmission.

“The center also includes a helpful, onboard diagnostic feature that translates diagnostic codes into easy-to-read text,” said Dozier. “The driver can stop, call the maintenance shop and pass along this information to the service technician.”

A convenient reference guide provides information about the engine, transmission, ABS (anti-lock braking) and electrical systems – such as make, model, and software version numbers. The display also includes a programmable ignition timer and can be set to show data in English, French or Spanish.
